We are often asked, "How can Bimrose lubricants help me?" The following photos and discussion will help you to understand the benefits of a lubricant that virtually elimimates wear in your machinery.

The following pictures are taken of two large diesel truck pistons, main bearings and big end bearings. One piston has performed over 800,000 kilometers, while the other was removed from an engine that had run over 1,500,000 kilometres. Both pistons have virtually no wear, either on the piston skirt, or on the rings. Both pistons could have been reused had the sleeves not required replacement. Currently it is more cost effective to purchase the sleeves, pistons and rings as a complete assembly. The sleeves had a reasonable amount of electrolysis corrosion due to the long period of use. Internaly the sleeves showed immeasurable wear.

In the picture to the right you can see that the piston has virtually no wear of the skirt. The land between the top and second compression rings has very little evidence of gas blowby. This ensures that only minute amounts of particulate matter will enter the oil and considerably improves performance. The previous piston on closer inspection will reveal a mark that is the telltale sign of gas passing through the top ring gap. This is normal, but usually the carbon buildup will extend for quite a distance aroud the land area.

In both examples you will note deposits of carbon at the area above the rings. This would have been considerably reduced, had the engine been run with fuel treated with our upper cylinder lubricant/fuel conditioner.

The rings on this piston are worn so little that you can see that they have not worn completely to the edges. The grey area is the wear surface on each ring. The top ring has worn to about 80% of its width, while the next two rings have even less wear. This low wear allows a maximum compression seal over the whole life of the engine. The Underside of this piston (used for over 1,500,000 kilometres) shows little evidence of such a long period in use. Note that there is no evidence of burnt oil on the underside. (Burnt oil on the underside is a common occurance on pistons that have been in service for long milage with normal lubricants). We believe that this is due to superior sealing of the rings and the ability of Bimrose Lubricants to dissipate heat away from hot "areas" over the life of the engine. This would mean less passage of blow by gas, in turn ensuring lubricant purity and continuation of oil integrity from one oil change to the next. Bimrose Lubricants oil does have a cleaning effect, but in this case there is no buildup in the first place.

The upper cylinder area would be kept cleaner in this motor by the addition of our upper cylinder lubricant/fuel conditioner product. In the picture here you will note that there is no cracking of the piston around the combustion area, nor buildup of carbon on the piston crown. This low buildup is made possible by good oil keeping the underside of the piston clean and able to maintain a good cooling effect. Normally a piston removed from an engine with 1,500,000 kilometres would be expected to have much greater deposit of carbon. This piston looks in all respects like it has been used less that 50,000 kilimetres.

Bimrose Lubricants will eliminate wear in all areas of your engine. This big end bearing has so little wear that you can still see some of the original surface in a few places. This bearing could easily have been reused for another 800,000 kilometres. Providing of course that the operator continued to use Bimrose Lubricants!

Once agin you can see that these bearings have hardly bedded in. There has been less than ½ of 1,000th of an inch wear in the bearings. Once again Bimrose Lubricants has eliminated wear in this vital engine area. Further you can expect to have similar results in all areas of you engine and other vehicle wear parts that can be protected with Bimrose Lubricants. Oil pumps and cam shafts have had extended life well in excess of normaly expected. Diesel injectors have had their life extended to many times the expected service life simply by treating fuel with our upper cylinder lubricant/fuel conditioner.
